We had a very rare find when we came across this stunning Vintage Rolex 4498 dating back to 1946. The same year that the 100th Grand National was run, Joe Louis KO’d Billy Conn in 8 to win the heavyweight boxing title and George Orwell publishes his book “Animal Farm” for the first time in the UK.
As you can see by the image above the watch has been well looked after over its 70 years and is in immaculate condition, and even still has the original dial.
It is a classical time piece in beautiful condition and would be a must have for any serious Rolex collector or a nice to have for any vintage or luxury watch collector.

The old adage of buying the best you can really does apply and unless you have a good idea of what you are doing its best to buy from a High St store or a well known seller who has their reputation to look after.
To make it more interesting why not buy yourself a birthdate watch , they are available from 1957 ( very very expensive ) up to present day. Why not buy a new model to mark the birth of your son or daughter. It will be a daily reminder of that joyous moment in time.

A 1971 GMT

The Rolex GMT master came about in 1953 when Pan American Airlines and a airline from Europe ( quite possibly an Italian one ) actually approached Rolex ( who had one of the best reputations for tough accurate watches ) to develop a watch that could tell the time in 2 time zones. The Rolex GMT simply gets its name from Greenwich Mean Time and has been copied many times by other manufacturers.
Aeroplanes were not very sophisticated in those days as they are now and knowing the time in the time Zone you flew from and were flying to was quite important !
The watch with the Pepsi bezel is now an iconic design loved by many including myself ! The 2 below are in my collection !
