Most watches are by sheer statistics vintage however the value of some vintage watches has gone up quite a bit lately but there are so many different brands and models its very difficult to assess the value of a watch unless you are in the business.

Simply finding a similar watch on the internet will not give you an accurate value. There are many factors that will affect the value of any watch such as

Watches Of Westminster offer a free watch evaluation and we will give you a cash offer for your watch.

  1. Do you have the original certificates for the watch ?
  2. If no certificates , do you have any receipts / history ?
  3. Is the watch running ( not always a problem ) ?
  4. What is the condition of the dial ?
  5. Does the watch have the original strap / bracelet ?
  6. If a gold watch , is it gold plated , gold filled or solid gold ?
  7. What is the grade of the gold ( if solid) ?
  8. Is there any service history ?
  9. Are all the parts original ( can be very important ).
  10. Is there any significant history behind the watch ?

Watches issued by the military will often have a significant value but this is a very specialist market needing even more specialist knowledge.

Unlike most other companies we don’t need to physically need to see your watch , you just need to send us some decent pictures via our watch valuation page ;

We buy broken watches !

Most of us have a old broken watches sitting in the back of a drawer or that was left to us by a relative. Like most things mechanical however watches need to be serviced and repaired and unfortunately this is not a inexpensive process . For most cheap watches the cost of repair is simply more than the value of the watch ( unless it has sentimental value ) but there are plenty watches around that are worth repairing but quite often the cost of repair ( £600 for a decent service on a high end watch ) is not something a owner will want to fork out.

At Watches Of Westminster however we have a in house watchmaker who loves the challenge of getting a watch running properly so sell us your broken watch and we will give it a good home .

Having done the first year of a watchmakers course believe me mending watches is a very tricky job which does explain why its a rather expensive process. I went to the Epping Forest Horology centre and vey much enjoyed my course so if you fancy a go check this link out

http://efhc.org.uk/wordpress/

If you want to move your watch on to a good home then contact us with a couple of decent pictures ( front or back ) and we can give you a fast valuation and either pick the watch up or arrange a free postal package so you can post the watch to us.

You can go to our valuation page or just send the pictures direct to me on 07768316371 via text or Whattsapp and you will get a fast response. No need for a visit and a wait, it can all be done remotely.

Even if your watch is missing parts such as the glass or winder it can be repaired and we are keen to repair it .

We have bought hundreds of watches this way and have proven track record in keeping customers happy.

Your broken watch could be worth more than you think so get in touch with us and we can complete the whole process quicker than you think.

We buy broken watches from around the world so don’t be put off if you are abroad.

If you want to sell your vintage Heuer watch today the easy way just have a read of this article.

Here is another interesting find just in all the way from Greece a Heuer 3648S with a rare red numbered telemetre ring. The watch is running but is off for a much needed service tonight. It arrived with one of those little loved expanding bracelets which has now been changed but I’ve kept it as in 20 years time Im sure everyone will be saying ” couldn’t give them away “!!

The watch has certainly seen plenty of use and there is some discolouration to the dial and a light scratch but to many and myself a vintage watch is always more wearable and interesting with “weathering” after all who buys antiques that look brand new.

If you have a vintage Heuer watch for sale just hit the link to our valuation page

Keep an eye on the web site , it may be up for sale at some point in the future !

The Bovet watch name is not so well known to some watch buyers but the company has a long and prestigious history starting in 1822 but its founder Edouard Bovet ( 1797 to1849 ) was in fact the son of a watchmaker and he went to London to study watchmaking ( don’t forget England was the centre of watchmaking ( a long story for another blog )) and he started the Bovet watch company in 1822 seemingly to capitalise on the export market to China ( how things change ).

As ever the Chinese market dived ( 1855 ) partly due to counterfeits ( just shows theres nothing new in watches !)  the company  was purchased in 1888.

The following is an extract from Wikepedia

In 1901, the Bovet trademark was sold at auction in Paris to Cesar and Charles Leuba, sons of Ami Leuba.[7] Jacques Ullmann and Co., another successful production of watches for the Chinese market, purchased the Bovet brand in 1918. After Jacques Ullmann went out of business in 1932, the Bovet name was bought by Albert and Jean Bovet ( some family connection ?) , who were successful watch makers and registered several patents for chronographs, such as the mono rattrapante—a device that would pause the second hand for a reading while the mechanism continued to run.[7] The company Favre-Leuba purchased the name and manufacturing facilities from the Bovet brothers in 1948.[7]

This therefore leads us to this really attractive watch we have recently purchased  which as 34 mm is a pleasant size on the wrist and one of the prettiest chronographs I have seen for some time.

We would love to buy more Covets so if you have one please let us know.

If your interested in this watch here is our advert for it.

Just in at Watches Of Westminster is this fantastic Omega Speedmaster Rattrapante 354050 Limited Edition with the superb black dial.

This is a rare Omega Speedmaster and was more expensive than the standard Omega Speedmaster model back in 1998 and differed to the X-33 in that it had 3 pushers. It was available with a leather strap or stainless as shown above.

At the time, this Omega Speedmaster was  futuristic looking watch with a carbon fibre dial and 3 rounded off rectangular pushers. One  pusher was to  start/stop the timing, the second to reset the chronograph hands and the third at 10 o’clock position would operate the split-seconds function

The heart of the watch ( the movement ) is a Omega Cal 3600 which is  based on the ETA / Valjoux 7750 movement but modified to become the split second chronograph that it is today. IWC did a very similar thing for their Double Chrono Fleiger.

Here is our page for the model we are selling

https://watchesofwestminster.co.uk/wp-admin/post.php?post=10613&action=edit

All Speedmasters are great but this model has a unique appeal and will certainly become a collectors piece in the future as has the the 125 and X-33 , its just a matter of time.
Given the good value they are at the moment ( ensure you go for original boxes and papers ) its a much better buy than any new watch and will always be a interesting timepiece whether on your wrist or in your collection.
If you have any model of Speedmaster  and want to sell it please contact us at Watches Of Westminster and we will give you a fast response.
We make the process of buying and selling as simple as possible and specialise in either coming to you or using the great UK postal system.
We also buy and sell abroad and will always consider a part exchange.

If you want to sell your Rolex GMT then here at Watches Of Westminster we love to buy vintage Rolex “tool” watches such as The Rolex GMT Master.

A 1971 GMT

We make the process very quick and simple . A staff member from Watches Of Westminster will also travel to your home to collect the Rolex GMT in person.

The Rolex GMT master came about in 1953 when Pan American Airlines and a airline from Europe ( quite possibly an Italian one ) actually approached Rolex ( who had one of the best reputations for tough accurate watches ) to develop a watch that could tell the time in 2 time zones. The Rolex GMT simply gets its name from Greenwich Mean Time and has been copied many times by other manufacturers.

Aeroplanes were not very sophisticated in those days as they are now and knowing the time in the time Zone you flew from and were flying to was quite important !

The watch with the Pepsi bezel is now an iconic design loved by many including myself ! The 2 below are in my collection !

WHAT ARE THEY WORTH ?

Part of our collection

Depends very much on age , dial condition and existence of paperwork and boxes but if you send us some decent pictures of the front and back of the watch plus any boxes or paperwork we can give you a fixed price for the watch the same day
