If you live anywhere between Devon and London ( a route I often travel for work purposes) ie Devon , Dorset , Hampshire and South/West London and you want to ” Sell my Vintage Watch” simply go to our valuation page.

Send us some decent pictures and a description and we can give you a same day valuation.

If you prefer you can simply send me some images by text or Whattsapp on 07768316371 and I can get straight back to you.

Any valuation will be subject to seeing the vintage watch you want to sell but the valuation rarely changes once the watch has been inspected.

It really is as simple as that and a process we have carried out almost a thousand times since 2015.

18k Zenith Elite

Times are going to get tough and that is for sure , I have been through 3 recessions and this is my 4th but now is the time to invest in vintage watches.

Luckily I stopped investing in the stock market on the second crash ( not black Weds ) and have not even thought about buying shares since , they are simply too volatile and frankly the returns are too low ( and taxed ) and a lot of smart and fast computers are going to take the big profits at your cost..

Property has always been a good investment for me ( being a Chartered Surveyor handy with tools helps ) but when in 2015 I started buying vintage watches I really have not looked back.

I don’t know anybody who has not made a decent margin on vintage watches ( and a number of new ones ) and if they are personal watches i.e. you are not engaged in a business theres no tax to pay of any sort.

This is an excerpt from the government website….

Possessions with a limited lifespan

You don’t have to pay Capital Gains Tax on personal possessions with a lifespan of less than 50 years. This covers all machinery, and includes things like antique clocks or watches.

Hmm I don’t know of any watch that won’t last 50 years but HMRC sets the rules !

Now the tricky part comes when you come to actually invest i.e. buy a vintage watch !

My best advice is to go to a well known auction house like Fellows. I used to buy from there in the early years and my watchmaker still does but then he tends to go for the cheaper watches i.e. up to £1,000 and needing work which of course he does for free !

If you have done your research and have built up a good knowledge of a particular brand or model then Ebay is always worth looking at and I have bought a few watches on Ebay but the margins are not so good but you do have the protection of Paypal !

You may be asking yourself at this point why Im not suggesting you buy from me when you invest in vintage watches .

You are more than welcome to and I offer better than high street prices and supply a warranty and certificate of authenticity but if you want the thrill of the chase and a bit of a hobby then there’s a massive world of vintage watches out there to explore but as ever profit is the reward for risk !

I would also generally steer clear of the more expensive watches i.e. over £5k as at this level they become of interest to the high end fakers ( The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Rolex Sub Kermit are very well faked and numerous ) and believe me there are many out there so always buy watches you personally like when you invest in vintage watches as you will build up a knowledge of them and you get to wear your watches and really enjoy your investment.

Im currently writing this blog wearing my Bulova Accutron which I absolutely love wearing , its a nice light watch and has a fascinating technical history. Put it to your ear and it sounds totally unique which is why they are called “hummers”.

I think they are quite undervalued but of course once they stop working repair is not so simple !

The bottom line is that if you like watches and want to invest , watches are a perfect solution . I have 5 classic cars but as much as I love them they do take a lot of maintenance luckily which I do myself but in terms of long term “profit” they don’t work so well.

If you have ever wondered “What is my vintage watch worth ?” then read this article and get into contact with us.

I love buying vintage watches and every purchase is a little bit of a triumph filled with excitement and some trepidation and then the pleasure of giving a fantastic bit of history a new life ( after a clean and service ).

What is my vintage watch worth
Just beautiful !

Whats your vintage watch worth ? I’m afraid the answer to that is anywhere between nothing and hundreds of thousands. There really is that much variation in the prices and valuing watches is not always an exact science.

I will often pay a bit more for watches I “want” to have in stock simply for the pleasure of owning them.

Of course if you have a well known brand and model a quick check on the net will give you the asking prices but there is a big difference between asking , selling and trade and then that is all qualified by the condition of the watch. A nice vintage Submariners value can be halved if later hands and dials have been fitted.

Original boxes and papers will also add a significant sum to the value especially for sought after models. Any interesting documented history will also help. Picture of your grandfather wearing his watch whilst storming the beaches really does excite collectors and me . Inscriptions on the back generally hurt values but not if it relates to a historic moment or person.

What is my vintage watch worth ?

Can you sell it today ?

Yes you can !

Unlike the “big” firms who want you to book a meeting and travel to them only to find you have to leave them the watch for 2 weeks , We have a policy of a fast turnaround and personal to your door service whenever possible. If you can give me good quality pictures of your watch in the morning I can get funds to you via Paypal that same day. If your not too far away we can often meet the same day and I can pay by mobile phone banking or with cash.

It is really that simple just check out the valuation page on our web site or Whattsapp me ( Simon) on 07768316371. I am the owner of the business and I love buying watches !

What is my Rolex GMT worth

Find out more about us here

The value of vintage watches can vary widely even for the same model. What most people dont understand is that originality is everything including the strap . Unlike classic cars its not recommended to add lots of new parts to vintage watches unless of course they are need to get the watch functioning.

The Buren watch shown above is very well worn but its value would not be helped if it was restored .What Is My Vintage Watch Worth is therefore a very complex question. Take a look at the link below.

I am the owner of Watches Of Westminster please read the about me Section on my website. I really do like buying and selling watches especially vintage models/ old watches anything up to late 90s ) even more so when they need some rescue / repair . Its not about the money ( thats a very long story ) and you do meet the most interesting people / customers in this business .

Sadly the most prominent company in this market Austin Kaye the cornerstone of vintage / high end watch retailing for over 60 years sadly closed their shop on the Strand central London. So many people ( even me ) have now have to forgo that lunchtime browse of gorgeous want to have watches ( I even went into the shop last year and nearly bought a Speedie at retail !!)

If your heading to London and want to look at a few of my watches just let me know and I would be happy to meet you at your hotel or any other (public ) location to suit in or around London and talk watches especially if that include a PX. Old watches are a passion for me.

Its just what I do and it is for the fun of it

We specialise in buying Rolex GMT watches and we pride ourselves in doing it quickly and professionally so if you want to sell your Rolex GMT today just contact us via our valuation page

As part of our service we will travel to you and pay via Bank Transfer , Paypal or even cash or we can meet you in a neutral location and again pay via cash or pre arranged bank transfer ( you will need mobile banking ).

We also realise people just like to change their watches ( perhaps for something vintage ) so we also offer a part exchange service.

We don’t mind if the watch is missing its box and papers or even not working as part of our service comprises a evaluation of the watch in front of you during our meeting.

Whether you have a modern or vintage GMT we are interested just contact us via the website or simply call us on 07768316371 at anytime for a chat.

There are many models of GMT starting in 1954 with the 6542 followed by the 1675 and in the early 1960’s , the 16750 came along in 1981. The 16700 and 16710 appeared in 1989 and the later models were named the 116710LN and 116713LN. There a huge range of variations on these models and of course its one of the most copied watches in the world ( something that only experts can determine) so if you need to sell your watch or just have it checked out just get in contact and we will get straight back to you.

Here is a very interesting article on the Rolex GMT

https://www.fratellowatches.com/fasten-your-seatbelts-rolex-gmt-master-history/#gref

The cost of servicing these and indeed any Rolex tool watch is now becoming very expensive especially if any refurbishment is needed so if you were thinking of selling your Rolex GMT its not always a good idea to get it serviced first !

We specialise in buying vintage watches that are in need of some TLC. so if you have a broken vintage watch please let us know.

A broken vintage watch has often been left in the back of a drawer or handed down through the family but have not been serviced for many years or are in need of repair.

Omega Speedmaster vintage watch repair

Sometimes these watches do make it to the local repair shop who can’t repair them ( watchmaking is a dying art ) or they ( the so called watch repairers ) simply want to send them away for a very expensive overhaul. This can often cost as much as the watch is worth and quite often the watches value is ruined by the original hands or dial being changed ( DONT DO IT !! ).

We are happy to look at any interesting or high end vintage watch you have in any condition even if not running as we love rescuing once great time pieces and giving them a new home.

We can also look at your old watch and PX it against one of our more modern watches or even a newly serviced vintage watch. Theres nothing we won’t consider. Just contact us via the web site or even call us on 07768316371 and ask for Simon.

Zodiac GMT

This is an interesting watch I recently bought from my watchmaker ( he is great at vintage watch repairs ) ! he had to change the glass and free up the bezel but other than that its now become my daily wearer and is in effect a rescued broken vintage watch. Yes even quartz watches can be vintage and asI forget to wind my watches up wearing this watch is not a problem.

Not all broken vintage watches can be repaired as many of the parts are not available ( Rolex will not stock or sell parts ) so its often a waiting game until the parts come up normally on Ebay.

At Watches Of Westminster we pride ourselves on our fast and personal service.

Unlike all other watch buyers we will travel to you for the right watch and can meet you at your bank to arrange a transfer or we can by prior arrangement pay cash or even by Paypal if you live a great distance from us .

We can inspect the watch when we meet and then and confirm our valuation and make price and payment. It is very rare that having seen a watch our valuation changes in fact , I cant remember the last time that happened other than when I met a chap with a watch that was working when he left home ( and I believed him ) but just didn’t want to run when we met. In the end I could see that the watch was just needing a good service and was vey gummed up inside so there was no problem in completing the deal.Just below is the watch I bought and I even drove 200 miles to pick it up as the seller preferred p

sell my watchold watch repair

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN FRUSTRATED BY THE COSTS OF VINTAGE WATCH REPAIR ?

Watches Of Westminster is now offering a postal service for the servicing and repair of all watches including high end brands especially vintage models that are often shunned by high street shops as too tricky to work on.

You may be considering vintage watch repair  or just selling it. To get the best price let us buy it as is and we can repair it .

Even Rolex service centres will not tackle older models !!

We charge a reasonable rate depending on the work needed and will provide you with a estimate of costs prior to any work being carried out and will not carry out any extra work without your approval. You can send the watch direct to our skilled watchmaker who will evaluate the watch and give you a price for repair /service.

Please contact us via the contact page or call us on 07768316371

Alternatively if your watch is not running and you simply want to sell it please let us know and we can have a chat about about inspection and purchase. Vintage watch repair can be very expensive given the lack of spare parts.

We have been employing our watchmaker for 4 years now and are amazed at what he can do with watches !
The price for a standard service of a non chronograph manual wind watch is £150 and does not include replacement parts if needed or return postage. Obviously a battery change is much less but every watch is treated on a individual basis and our quote form will allow you to tailor the work you want done.

If you want to sell your vintage Heuer watch today the easy way just have a read of this article.

Here is another interesting find just in all the way from Greece a Heuer 3648S with a rare red numbered telemetre ring. The watch is running but is off for a much needed service tonight. It arrived with one of those little loved expanding bracelets which has now been changed but I’ve kept it as in 20 years time Im sure everyone will be saying ” couldn’t give them away “!!

The watch has certainly seen plenty of use and there is some discolouration to the dial and a light scratch but to many and myself a vintage watch is always more wearable and interesting with “weathering” after all who buys antiques that look brand new.

If you have a vintage Heuer watch for sale just hit the link to our valuation page

Keep an eye on the web site , it may be up for sale at some point in the future !

The old adage of buying the best you can really does apply and unless you have a good idea of what you are doing its best to buy from a High St store or a well known seller who has their reputation to look after.

To make it more interesting why not buy yourself a birthdate watch , they are available from 1957 ( very very expensive ) up to present day. Why not buy a new model to mark the birth of your son or daughter. It will be a daily reminder of that joyous moment in time.

The Bovet watch name is not so well known to some watch buyers but the company has a long and prestigious history starting in 1822 but its founder Edouard Bovet ( 1797 to1849 ) was in fact the son of a watchmaker and he went to London to study watchmaking ( don’t forget England was the centre of watchmaking ( a long story for another blog )) and he started the Bovet watch company in 1822 seemingly to capitalise on the export market to China ( how things change ).

As ever the Chinese market dived ( 1855 ) partly due to counterfeits ( just shows theres nothing new in watches !)  the company  was purchased in 1888.

The following is an extract from Wikepedia

In 1901, the Bovet trademark was sold at auction in Paris to Cesar and Charles Leuba, sons of Ami Leuba.[7] Jacques Ullmann and Co., another successful production of watches for the Chinese market, purchased the Bovet brand in 1918. After Jacques Ullmann went out of business in 1932, the Bovet name was bought by Albert and Jean Bovet ( some family connection ?) , who were successful watch makers and registered several patents for chronographs, such as the mono rattrapante—a device that would pause the second hand for a reading while the mechanism continued to run.[7] The company Favre-Leuba purchased the name and manufacturing facilities from the Bovet brothers in 1948.[7]

This therefore leads us to this really attractive watch we have recently purchased  which as 34 mm is a pleasant size on the wrist and one of the prettiest chronographs I have seen for some time.

We would love to buy more Covets so if you have one please let us know.

If your interested in this watch here is our advert for it.

Just in at Watches Of Westminster is this fantastic Omega Speedmaster Rattrapante 354050 Limited Edition with the superb black dial.

This is a rare Omega Speedmaster and was more expensive than the standard Omega Speedmaster model back in 1998 and differed to the X-33 in that it had 3 pushers. It was available with a leather strap or stainless as shown above.

At the time, this Omega Speedmaster was  futuristic looking watch with a carbon fibre dial and 3 rounded off rectangular pushers. One  pusher was to  start/stop the timing, the second to reset the chronograph hands and the third at 10 o’clock position would operate the split-seconds function

The heart of the watch ( the movement ) is a Omega Cal 3600 which is  based on the ETA / Valjoux 7750 movement but modified to become the split second chronograph that it is today. IWC did a very similar thing for their Double Chrono Fleiger.

Here is our page for the model we are selling

https://watchesofwestminster.co.uk/wp-admin/post.php?post=10613&action=edit

All Speedmasters are great but this model has a unique appeal and will certainly become a collectors piece in the future as has the the 125 and X-33 , its just a matter of time.
Given the good value they are at the moment ( ensure you go for original boxes and papers ) its a much better buy than any new watch and will always be a interesting timepiece whether on your wrist or in your collection.
If you have any model of Speedmaster  and want to sell it please contact us at Watches Of Westminster and we will give you a fast response.
We make the process of buying and selling as simple as possible and specialise in either coming to you or using the great UK postal system.
We also buy and sell abroad and will always consider a part exchange.

If you want to sell your vintage watch  and with the minimum of fuss and the maximum speed then watches Of Westminster has to be the right business for you.

We now specialise in vintage watches and making the selling process for owners as simple and easy as possible. Depending of course on the watch and distance , a sale can be arranged and sometimes completed the same day with any payment method preferred and if needs be a collection arranged.

All you have to do is go to our sales page

https://watchesofwestminster.co.uk/wp-admin/post.php?post=13&action=edit

If your in a real rush you can just send pictures via Whattsapp on 07768316371 , its that simple.

There are many High St businesses who will buy your watch but the process is complicated and you will need to take the watch to them and leave it with them for 2 weeks ( if they are open ). Watch finder are a top company by all means check their website

https://www.watchfinder.co.uk/sell-your-watch/Omega/Vintage/watches

Having started  Watches Of Westminster 5 years ago now I have had loads of great experiences but have found that my real interest is in finding interesting vintage watches often left languishing in cupboards and the backs of drawers.Ive even bought some that were found under floor boards !

These watches were the pride and joy of their owners at some point in time but some have been passed on and simply left in a box of momento’s to gather dust until the inevitable house move or clear out occurs.

I have often heard that the grandchildren were not interested in their granddads vintage watch so it was being sold and they were being given the cash .

Heres an interesting watch I bough recently and which is now my daily wear.

Breitling Navitimer

Rear View

This is a Breitling Navitimer Jupiter Pilot model ref 80971 from 1986 issued to the Iraqi Air Force by their glorious leader a one Mr Hussain but somehow it managed to find its way to a car boot sale in England. I bought it from the person who was willing to get up early in the morning and go rummaging and I took a chance that the non functionality was simply a flat battery which it was.

Running a watch business has a number of advantages one being that you meet the nicest of people who also seem to be into vintage cars and motorbikes as I am and I bought this nice Bovet which will shortly be up for sale from a fellow vintage car and bike owner.

With a 34mm case it really is a pretty watch and keeping excellent time.

So if you want to sell your vintage watch just think about the best way to suit you , from a simple phone call to filling out the valuation page on our website noted above.

If however you have a vintage watch you want advice on just give me a call or visit the web site and send some decent pictures through and I can give you a fast response and answer any question you have without any obligation.

If you want to sell your vintage watch , here at Watches Of Westminster we specialise in the fast valuation and purchase of Vintage watches from all of the main watch brands such as Rolex , Breitling , Omega , Longines , Patek Philippe , Breguet , Cartier , Heuer , Enicar , Jaeger-LeCoultre , Chopard ,and Piaget .

There are literally hundreds of other brands and these are always of interest as here at Watches Of Westminster we buy watches we like the look of rather than just those of the most value. My personal favourites are the Omega Speedmaster and Rolex GMT although at the moment I am wearing the very first watch bought through this web site which is a square faced Omega Seamaster.

Most people selling watches simply do not want the hassle of listing on Ebay or any other of the well known sites which are generally now very expensive to sell on and becoming quite complex to list on . As ever the looming threat of fraudsters is a nightmare even for professional watch buyers like ourselves !

There are many watch buyers in the market but you have to go to them at a specific time and date ,  leave the watch and then have to travel back into town if a deal has not been concluded . I am afraid most buyers assume that being in possession of a watch gives them the upper hand !.

We however can travel to you for the right watch , meet you wherever you are most comfortable with and as long as the watch is as described / genuine will pay the estimated sum quoted on the photos and description provided. Even if minor items are only evident once we have physically seen the watch we do not use that as a excuse to start haggling ( its  just so annoying when people do that ! ).

Some people prefer cash but we can also organise bank transfers or Paypal o the day.

If you want to sell your vintage watch the process is simple , just contact us by text ,Whattsapp ( 07768316371 ) or  go to our free valuation page the link is below.

You are also welcome to call me on the mobile above if you just want a chat first.

Pawning your vintage watcher if you want to sell your vintage watch  in London can be a relatively simple ordeal if you know where to go, and we’re not talking about your average high-street pawnbrokers. These sorts of establishments should be avoided if you intend to really get your goods back.

Unfortunately, when you bypass the local Cash Converters next door to a chicken shop for a more reputable pawnbroking business, you’re trading in your precious time and patience for only a fractional decrease in funding costs.

A solution then, is what’s needed.

Fortunately, here at Watches of Westminster we offer a watch buying service that combines the best of both worlds. As we are a small and honest online business and  you need not worry about the indignity of daylight robbery, nor the frustrating rigmarole of waiting three weeks only to be told that your watch is of no interest, all at your expense. Instead, we are perfectly happy to come to your home or at work ( for the right watch ) provided your watch fits in with our buying guidelines ( we specialise in vintage watches between five hundred and ten thousand pounds especially if they need some refurbishment ) , and will inspect and evaluate what’s on offer then and  give you a valuation free of charge !

We can buy your watch on the spot or if you prefer give you the value in cash or bank transfer and then give you 4 weeks ( 28 days ) to repay the purchase price and get your watch back as part of our buy back program.

This is in effect a interest free loan but we are not pawnbrokers so don’t have to make our money from charging massive interest rates.

So why not contact us on 07768316371 or info@watchesofwestminster.co.uk  to start the fast and simple process to receive some money for that watch in your drawer or the unwanted gift gathering dust !

Here are some of the vintage watches we have recently bought but we will consider any interesting brand/watch.

Whilst Watches Of Westminster are keen to buy any vintage watches , we are also trying to build up a stock of vintage ( pre 80’s ) Speedmasters ( later known a moon watch ) and spare parts and are looking to make bulk purchases of old stock as well as buy individual watches in any condition with or without boxes.

We are happy to travel worldwide to view genuine stock or can make smaller purchases via courier /post.

Everybody who is interested in vintage watches will have heard of the Omega Speedmaster later called the moon watch but a lot of people do not realise how old a model they are and indeed that Omega had similar watches long before the Speedmaster name was used.

The very early origins of the Omega Speedmaster go back to 1941 when Lemania starts to produce the 27Chrono C12 caliber movements. The famous cal 321 movement of the Omega Speedmaster can trace its heritage all the way back to this watch. Omega produced the first Speedmaster in 1957 and this was the first watch to feature a tachymeter scale on the bezelbezel

Vintage watches For Sale

Perusing our stock of watches for sale in London you may have come across something like our Rolex Prince – highly sought after in this condition and a must for any collector. Having been fitted with a new Hirsch strap the watch looks spot on.The Rolex Prince is arguably the most famous vintage watch ever made. Sometimes known as the Doctor’s Watch as it was often the preferred gift from a rich patient to their doctor, it has a  large sub-second dial. It had a remarkable movement that was the first to be granted ‘Observatory’ status. Unfortunately having been in stock for only 6 months it was sold recently with another customer wanting it the same day !

Where can I buy or sell a quality watch in London?

Here at Watches Of Westminster, we pride ourselves on buying and selling quality vintage and new watches and offering the best possible service for our clients. We are though often asked the most obvious questions. They are:

Are your watches serviced?

The answer to this question is that all our watches are fully serviced (unless clearly stated on our adverts) by our in-house watchmaker and are compelled in ensuring that they are working to a very high standard as a significant number of our watches go overseas.Watch repairs London

How can I be sure that your watches are authentic?

This again is a million dollar question but we ensure that all our watches are authenticated by, not only our watchmaker, but by our experts in this field who have over 75 years of experience. We also issue a Watches Of Westminster Certificate of Authenticity to put peoples mind at rest.

 What is your best price?

This is the most obvious question and one that we understand is part of the sales process. We price our watches to sell promptly but are always prepared here at Watches Of Westminster on agreeing a deal depending upon the circumstances.

We appreciate that there are a large number of watch dealers in the UK; in particular in London. We endeavor though to offer our clients a range of quality new and vintage watches that is comprehensive and varied in price, style, brand, rarity and age. But we never ever compromise on the quality of watches we sell or the service we offer.

As the partners of the business are watch collectors in their own right, they are also passionate about watches and will always give their honest view on the suitability of a watch, the potential for investment and a true value of a watch sold to us. Enjoying the experience is what we specialize in, here at Watches Of Westminster.
